Oakland Port Sees Volume Gains in August

Buoyed by significant gains in loaded import container volume, the Port of Oakland reported the seventh straight monthly increase of total box volumes in August. 

Oakland, the third busiest container port on the US West Coast, handled a total of 217,695 TEUs in August, a 22.4 percent increase over August 2009. Port officials reported handling 76,549 loaded inbound TEUs in August, a 24.3 percent increase of the year-ago period. At the same time, total loaded outbound container volumes fell 7.9 percent to 79,925 TEUs for August. 

Oakland continues to remain in the positive for the year to date, with total box volumes up 14.7 percent compared to the first eight months of 2009.
