Port Metro Vancouver Gets New Board Member


Businessman Satnam Johal has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, which oversees Port Metro Vancouver, on behalf of the Province of British Columbia by Mary Polak, the province’s Minister of Transportation.

Johal, who was appointed to a three year term, effective March 1, 2013, is the founder and CEO of Nu Tek Doors Ltd., which specializes in the manufacture of wood doors and drawer fronts for cabinets.

He served on the Mayor’s 2010 Task Committee and was a torchbearer for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. In 2008 he was recognized by the Vancouver Sun as one of the 100 Most Influential South Asian People.

Port Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors is composed of 11 members: one federal appointee; one British Columbia provincial appointee; one appointee for the Prairie Provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba; one municipal appointee; and, seven federal appointees recommended by port users.

Members are appointed to three-year terms and are eligible for two re-appointments to a three-year term, for a maximum of nine years on the Board. The full board typically meets six times per calendar year.
